Slip Casting

As long as I am still liquid I will be poured into a plaster mold. This is repeatedly done until my edge is thick enough.

In the following step, the reduntant liquid mass (Slip) inside the mold is effused and used again.

Step 1Step 2

Opening the mold and removal

After some time passed by, and I start unfixing myself from the mold I will look as shown in the picture after one half of the mold is taken off.

         (here with my brother):

Now we have to wait again - until I completely unfix myself from the mold.

Step 3

„Cleaning“

Now my edges and and the waste have to be scratched off and I have to be cleaned thoroughly...

Step 4

Ready to be fired in the Kiln

... so I will look like this!

Step 5

 Firing in the Kiln

After that it‘s going to get really hot... I will be fired in a secial ceramic oven (Kiln)... The result is this ->

Step 6

Painted and lacquered

Now I am ready to be painted...you can paint me how you please...

Here I was painted with a Sandstone paint, a cold paint,

Meaning that I do not have to pay the Kiln another visit.

Step 7

Verschönert

In they case I was also spary painted with a clear varnish , so that the sandstone paint sticks to me.

And with a little knickknack – i.e. a flower attched to my hat - I look pretty good for a napkin holder, right???

Bon appetit!!!
